BY BLESS BAJAL AND MILLES RODRIGUEZ

Fashion is unquestionably an important aspect in everyday life but does the same hold true for mass communication? Bless Bajal joins up-and-coming local fashion designer Nicole Rodriguez for a conversation on fashion.

Young Nicole Rodriguez tailored clothing for her toy dolls, but when she realized she could be making a living from it, she started posting pictures of her clothes online. Her clothes were noticed by SM and many more fashion publications as well.

Her fashionista grandmother could be considered the impetus for her love of couture. She enjoyed her grandma’s style so much and she takes inspiration from her clothing choices.

Nicole Rodriguez’s clothing has been featured in different shows in Baguio City and even out of town. These events are opportunities for her, as well as other designers, to display their works.

Local publications have featured her works. She has even rubbed he elbows with big designers in town.

She Is hired by interested people through her Instagram to tailor clothes for weddings, birthdays, etc. SM and other places contact her to judge and to participate in fashion shows as well.

Like everyone, she is on social media looking for inspiration. She peruses Pinterest and Instagram to look at what people are responding to, then incorporating it into her apparel.

Media influences fashion and vice versa. It is a life imitates art imitates life situation.

Fashion, as Nicole Rodriguez says, is powerful. It is the first impression, the first line of defense people have. As she says, a news reporter needs to dress well to show that they are the authority.
